Redgum turns 1 Today

Redgum turns 1 Today 2

WOW, can you believe how fast time goes by. Today marks the anniversary of the day we turn 1 Year old, and I’d like to take a quick moment to say thank you to all who have made this possible. From our awesome regular & non-regular Clients to the awesome people behind the scenes that have made Redgum a reality – Thank you, without all of you who have taking some part in our little company we wouldn’t be here doing the things we love doing without you.

Only a Year ago..

It was this time a year ago that I was driving to my regular JOB as the Caretaker at the Waldorf thinking to myself there must be a more satisfying way to earn an income doing something I love, performing tasks that others either hate doing or would rather pay someone else to do. I had been in business in the past, with many failures to add to my name.

For months I looked for opportunities – Franchises, businesses for Sale, I even thought about having a total career change – but I wasn’t getting any younger and also needed to pay bills so that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon.

So I continued looking but nothing was really taking my interest and since I wasn’t new to the game of business, I knew that whatever I did it would need to have substance, be doable and not require a great amount of capital to get started.

At roughly the same time, I quit my position as the Caretaker/Building Manager at the Waldorf, as I wasn’t being looked after by the company that had the contract for the building management. I then went back working as just a Housekeeper for the Waldorf Group. I knew I wanted a change, I knew that I wanted to be in business for myself, working for myself, making my own destiny.

But what the hell was I going to do?

I heard via the grapevine that the contract for the management of the Waldorf building was coming up so I decided that I would submit a Tender to the Strata company to take on the contract. I had been performing the job for months and felt that I could provide a better service at a better price to the Body Corporate (owners). I spent hours and hours putting together this Tender offer. The research and time I put into this task was incredible and the result was pretty impressive for a first time go at publishing a Tender document.

Now the only issue I really had was – What would I call the business?

If you have ever started your own business or started anything really, that needed to be named I’m sure you would know the great difficulty in coming up with something unique, not in use and something that can be branded. It’s not always easy, and it doesn’t always come at you straight away, this wasn’t any different. The amount of different names I had come up with before using Redgum was crazy.

Redgum Was Born

Then one day I was driving on the same piece of road I had done for many years admiring the scenery. The road I was driving on goes through the Wyrrabalong National Park on the North side of North Entrance, here on the Central Coast. It’s a very beautiful place if you haven’t laid your eyes on it, many little walks you can go on, and if you’re quite enough you might see the wallabies that occupy these areas but they are very hard to spot and the numbers aren’t as strong as they once were.

Anyway, as I said I was driving along this road taking in the beauty when my attention was drawn to the Redgum Eucalyptus trees that fill this National Park – as I was looking at them I said to myself, oh I love these Redgums how they change colour during different times of the day – then it dawned on me – Redgum .. Redgum Cleaning, “oh man, that’s an awesome name” I thought to myself. I drove straight home, jumped on the PC and searched the ASIC databases for that name to make sure no one else was using it. Late that same evening, we registered the name Redgum Cleaning Company – and the rest is becoming history!

And that folks, is how our little company got its name. Unfortunately we were not successful in our bid for the Waldorf contract. But that still didn’t stop us in realising our goals as we have so far developed some awesome relationships with the Clients that did choose us.

So , in closing again I would like to thank all those who have been apart of this adventure and I hope there are many more years to come.
